Rain Dog Linux
Built from the ground up using a minimal Debian installation, Rain Dog Linux is specifically tailored toward Python developers. This is accomplished by providing built-in support for professional development tools such as virtualenv, and a Python-oriented desktop environment featuring our very own custom desktop panel, omniDOCK.
omniDOCK
A few years ago, we began asking ourselves "Must all panels consist of a single row or column? Is a two-dimensional dock a usable option?" Exploring that question led us to create omniDOCK, a Python/GTK for Linux desktops. omniDOCK treats your panel as a grid of arbitrary size, and allows you to place nearly any type of widget in that grid. It could be an embedded terminal, a CPU monitor, an application launcher, or even a fully functional mini web browser. The application presses no limits on widget contents as long as the widet supplies a few basic pieces of information about itself.
More than any other Rain Dog project, omniDOCK is an experiment. Current plans are to include it as the default panel for Rain Dog Linux, but it's expected that many users may wish to switch to a more standard approach.
